Introduction

This five-day course teaches advanced methods for building, testing, and governing risk models used in finance. You will work with techniques for market, credit, and model risk that are in active use at banks and asset managers. The course emphasizes practical model validation, stress testing, and documentation that meet current regulatory expectations. Expect hands-on exercises and case studies that connect models to capital, limits, and business decisions.

Objectives

1. Build and calibrate quantitative risk models for market, credit, and operational risk using statistical and machine-learning methods.
2. Perform model validation: backtesting, sensitivity and scenario analysis, performance metrics, and detecting model drift.
3. Calculate risk measures (VaR, Expected Shortfall, stressed VaR) and translate results into capital and limit assessments.
4. Implement model risk management practices: versioning, documentation, governance checks, and evidence for regulatory review.
5. Present model results and limitations clearly to stakeholders, produce reproducible reports, and recommend action based on model outputs.
